I had such a wonderful time with Shanzay today interviewing Malika Junaid. She's been insanely successful in her architecture so of course that was wonderful to hear about, but even more than that, Malika presented a very unique perspective as a Pakistani woman from a well-known family. Her experiences and work have really impacted who she is today, as they do for us all. It's just so wonderful to hear how positive she is! She says that when something negative happens we must not worry because we may not know the whole situation as well as we think, and even if we do, we should not let it bother us. She uses the example that when her children come to her complaining that when someone doesn't want to play with them she tells them that maybe that person is having a hard time at home or just really doesn't want to play with them, and that they shouldn't take it personally. In other words, she advises to not worry about if others approve of you because it is truly not your problem. At the end of the day, you will be the only one looking yourself in the mirror and judging your actions. Well, you and a higher power, if you believe in one. That advice can be applied in a lot of aspects of your life... relationships, self-image, work/school, religion...etc. I mean, that's really the essence of every success story, right? Don't let anyone or anything hold you back. It's the same for relationships, when we worry about if someone likes us or if we're good enough we get so caught up in trying to please everyone but ourselves. Focus on your own ambitions and the right people will tag along for the right reasons (as Stacey Ferreira told us in a previous interview). People will sense your independence and your confidence and they will come to you.
We have to remember to take risks and forget worry because, well, you've heard it before but I'll repeat it anyway, life is too short.
